The from-scratch cake Ryan baked me for my birthday (and a cute little guy who is SO excited to finally get some cake! He was begging all morning, so we went ahead and had it after lunch!). The cake was a moist chocolate with mocha buttercream. Yum!
We realized that we must have left our birthday candles in Michigan when we celebrated Ryan's birthday...Ryan insisted we have candles for me to blow out, so this is the result!
Later that afternoon, we met some friends at the Boerner Botanical Gardens, followed by a picnic dinner!
The gardens were beautiful! Abe especially loved this fish pond:
Jennie and me; her husband Craig is a medical student as well. The crazy schedules of our husbands prevent us from getting together as often as we'd like, but we've treasured their friendship over the past couple of years.
Charlie loved this glass soda bottle....it was just hilarious to watch him drink it!
On the way back to the car after our picnic dinner!
It was a wonderful birthday!! Now on to the 4th of July...
We met Nichole and Tinashe at the Wauwatosa parade...it was fun but VERY hot....and I forgot water (bad, bad mistake)...and it got long toward the end. Nichole and I both joked that if we hadn't met one another, we probably wouldn't have stuck it out to the end! It was so great to have her company, and I think the boys enjoyed themselves for the most part. They even left with a little stash of candy!
The best I got of the three of them!
Hanging out before fireworks...
Charlie and Mommy:
Doing summersaults:
Dancing to the live music:
Playing Frisbee:
And not one picture of the actual fireworks! And really, the show wasn't the best I've ever seen, but we had a ton of fun!

Fun!!! There is no point in taking firework pictures either they never show what it really was! :0) Have you been on your birthday date yet????
